We use Accelerated Reader as a way to allow students the freedom to choose their own books to read independently while providing teachers accountability and data about their reading habits. After reading the book of their choice, students take a short (usually 10 questions, but it can go down to as few as 3 for the youngest students, and up to 20 for high-level books) quiz to prove their understanding. Students in grades 3-5 recieved access to AR on 8/20, while K-2 students had to wait until after their first Progress Monitoring assessment (9/13). At the end of every quarter, students who meet their AR goals are celebrated on the Wall of Fame on the morning show, and awarded a certificate and small prize. Students that meet their AR goal for 2+ quarters they will get a coupon for a free $6 or under book from the Spring Book Fair. Below are the current AR goals for our school!
